For two years running, Ethyl Corporation has received the American Chemistry Council’s 2012 Responsible Care® Company of the Year award. The award recognizes the chemical company’s operational performance and spirit of continual improvement in the areas of environmental, health, and security initiatives and provides customers with a tangible peace of mind of the company’s determination to safeguard their workers, operations, customers and communities in which they operate.
Eligibility for the award requires a high level of success in performance criteria that include “a safety performance rating in the top 10 percent of companies in their size category, positive trends in performance measures related to transportation safety, process safety and specified emissions; and demonstrated ongoing excellence in safety, health, environment, product stewardship, security, distribution safety, emergency preparedness and community outreach” (ACC).
Ethyl also won the 2011 ACC Responsible Care® Company of the Year award and its recognition this year shows the continued involvement in initiatives such as its “Safety Observation Program” and commitment to reducing hazardous waste production. Each employee accepts and pledges to have a clear understanding of each and every action required of them, to train in the steps required to execute each action, to possess the authority required to carry out each action and to accept fully the responsibility for discharging their duties. In order to succeed in safe and sustainable practices, individuals must recognize the importance of abiding by these guidelines independently in order for the company as a whole to flourish.
Azfar Choudhury, president of Ethyl Corporation said this concerning the honor: “This award is a confirmation of the profound value of the consistent, dedicated effort that all Ethyl employees make to work safely and efficiently to provide high value products to our customers.”
